It holds in six selected institutes in the country _

Paris, Montpellier, and Loire Valley, Nantes, Aix-Marseille, and Loire Valley. It is also fully funded, with a target to admit students from the various background into the broader academic community in France.

About French Institute Advanced Study Fellowship Program

The French Institute for Advanced Study Fellowship Program is probing for core sciences that freely interact with SSH (Social Sciences and Humanities).

Also, the FIAS describes the layout as coopting research works.

“Research projects from other sciences that feature a transversal dialogue with SSH are also eligible. It is highly recommended to check the Institute’s web pages to learn more about their focus, scientific priorities, and partners.”

Each institute (of the six mentioned at the start) will take a specific number of students, which the IAS describes as an interdisciplinary cohort of fellows.

The program curricula are such that fellows are at liberty to initiate and execute a research plan, leveraging the local research potential. Academic outputs will reflect the focus, scientific priorities, and partnership between cohorts.

FIAS Program Eligibility Criteria

Note:

Admittance requirements are tough for this program. Only applicants with a Ph.D. and two (2) years of research experience (not including the time of application) can apply for the fellowship.

However, scholars with a Master’s in relevant fields and six (6) years of full-time research experience are eligible, although current Ph.D. students are not.

The FIAS calls for applications from researchers all over the world.

At a glance _

  • Only Ph.D. holders with at least two (2) years of work experience can apply;
  • IAS will also award the fellowship to Master’s Degree holders with six (6) years of experience
  • All applicants must spend at most twelve (12) months in France in the consecutive three (3) years before the ongoing application.
  • Scholars from all parts of the world are eligible, provided they meet the other criteria.

Moreover, the criteria for core science fellowship are more difficult and selective than the one for SSH. It typically polls peer reviews and verifies research outputs. According to the FIAS website,

“The scientific selection is competitive, merit-based, and conducted through an international independent peer review.”

Ensure you apply in time. The extended deadline is June 9th, 2022, at 6:00 pm (Paris, France time).

Additionally, applicants using letters of recommendation should adhere to this notice.

Letters of recommendation are optional Letters of support/interest-only concern to Loire Valley, Lyon, Montpellier and Paris IAS. The candidates apply exclusively through the online application system. Paper applications are not accepted. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Late applications will not be considered.

Applicants will have to attach these documents as part of the requisites for the FIAS fellowship.

  • Well-referenced CV
  • Additional research proposal of up to five (5) pages with a 1-page bibliography.
  • Publications, not exceeding five (5) and not less than two (2).

Moreover, a letter of support/interest by an IAS’s local scientific partner (only requested and mandatory for Le Studium (Loire Valley IAS), the Collegium de Lyon, MAK’IT (Montpelier IAS) and for the Paris IAS
